Nintendo turns November 1 into an annual Pikmin celebration — but this is a festival of dates, demos and shorts, not a new game reveal.
October 31, 2026 — Nintendo has declared November 1 to be Pikmin Day, an annual celebration, in a surprise Pikmin Day Direct premiered on October 31, 2026 with minimal prior notice. Hosted by Nintendo Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto, it also confirmed a free demo, a new animated short series and a winter Pikmin Bloom update. Crucially, no new Pikmin game was announced.

Editor's Highlight: The news is not a sequel but a calendar: Nintendo has given Pikmin a recurring day of its own, plus dated events from November 1 to November 12 that fans can actually play and watch.

Why November 1 Is Pikmin Day
According to Nintendo, the date is a visual joke. Miyamoto explained that the original game's red, blue and yellow Pikmin, standing together, resemble the three 1s in "11/1".
As quoted by Final Weapon, Miyamoto said: "In the first Pikmin game… the red, blue, and yellow Pikmin made their debut. If you imagine those three Pikmin as the number 1, that makes November 1st Pikmin Day!"
The first Pikmin game came out in 2001, making the series 25 years old in 2026. A dedicated annual day gives that milestone a permanent home on the calendar.
Newsroom Focus: Annual days work best with something to do, and Nintendo has backed this one with a demo, shorts and a mobile update.
Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition and the Free Demo
The centrepiece is Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which Nintendo says launches on November 12, 2026. The date was first announced in the September 2026 Nintendo Direct and reiterated on October 31.
The original Pikmin 4 released in 2023 on the original Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 edition adds new content and lets players call Oatchi, the dog companion, to action with voice commands using the Switch 2's built-in microphone, according to Nintendo.
Nintendo says a free demo launches on November 2, 2026. Polygon reports it lets Switch 2 owners play the opening area and two Dandori Academy challenges.
Dandori Academy: A Timed Test of Strategy
Dandori Academy is a new timed exam mode built around optimising strategy under pressure. Players are scored on how efficiently they plan, delegate and execute.
One showcased exam is Gargantuan Garden, where players collect gold nuggets within a set time.
According to Nintendo, limited-time exams will be released every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with leaderboards for friends and worldwide players. A total of 72 stages are planned over time — not all at launch.
Hello! Pikmin: A New Animated Short Series
The Direct also debuted Hello! Pikmin, a new series of animated shorts from Nintendo Pictures and a spiritual successor to the October 2025 short "Close to You".
The first short debuted in the Direct. It runs under a minute: a Red Pikmin tries to lift a baseball while avoiding a frog, then escapes by hiding behind it.
The first short debuted in the Direct, with more shorts to follow in November and then monthly from December. According to Nintendo, they will be distributed via the Nintendo Today app and Nintendo's other official channels.
Pikmin Bloom Heads Into Secret Caves
Mobile players are not left out. Pikmin Bloom, free on Android and iOS, is getting Secret Caves in winter 2026, according to Nintendo.
Players will send Pikmin into darker caves to battle creatures and collect treasure. Polygon reports cave maps come from in-game postcards and Dandori Academy challenges.
Miyamoto also introduced actor Fuka Koshiba as a new Pikmin brand ambassador, according to Nintendo.
What Was Not Announced
It is worth stating plainly: no new Pikmin game was announced. Nintendo's focus was Pikmin Day itself, the Switch 2 edition of an existing game, the animated shorts and the Bloom update.
Rather than teasing a sequel, Nintendo filled the next fortnight with playable, watchable content.
